Parliamentarians from 29 countries back the Power in Menopause Declaration

Parliamentarians from 29 countries have committed their support to Power in Menopause: A Global Declaration.

The Global Health Caucus worked with colleagues at Power in Menopause to bring parliamentarians into the campaign because many of the barriers surrounding menopause require political solutions.

The Declaration states, “The world can no longer tolerate the quiet suffering of half of the world’s population. No one should face menopause alone, uninformed, or untreated.”

Menopause has been met with silence for too long. Silence is a choice. We choose action.

Why parliamentarians matter

Power in Menopause is calling for robust national frameworks that increase research funding, improve access to care and education and expand workplace accommodations.

These are areas where parliamentarians can drive real change.

They can mobilise domestic resources for research, care and public education. They can strengthen laws and workplace protections. They can scrutinise government policy and expenditure. They can bring health leaders, employers and communities together around practical solutions.

They can also ensure that menopause is treated as a serious health, equality and economic issue.

Political leadership can move menopause out of private conversations and into national policy.

Turning support into action

The support of parliamentarians from 29 countries is an important first step. 

Their endorsement strengthens the Power in Menopause campaign and signals growing international recognition of the need for change. Policy areas that require attention centre on better access – to research funding, to diagnostics, treatment, care and support, to accurate information, to workplace accommodations and political support.
